Hours and Kilometres: Long-Range Electric Bicycles
When you see someone on an electric bike, out and about, in the city or the suburbs, even in the bush or on a road by the seaside, there is one word that springs to mind: serenity. They look calm, they look happy. They are not stressed. That’s because, with a bit of sensible planning, they are never going to run out of battery. Read More
It’s a similar story with electric cars: the technology is improving all the time, the number of charging points is increasing, and the world is adapting to the requirements of the quiet, environmentally friendly traveller. And yet still the first question many of the sceptics will ask is, “How many kilometres can you do on that thing?”
There are two answers. 1. Plenty. 2. It depends.
Plenty because if you think about your route, you can make sure you’re not pushing your luck. You can buy a charging point to use at home. If you’re lucky or persuasive, you may get your employer to get one at work, too, setting a good example and encouraging more people to use e-bikes in Australia. One day in the not-too-distant future most people will be doing it, so why not be an early adopter?
It depends because it does depend – on what the conditions are. On a quiet, flat road where you’re not stuck in traffic, you’re going to cruise for a longer time than if you’re stopping and starting, making detours, battling headwinds and going up hills. It stands to reason. The seasoned rider on the right model has a long-range electric bicycle that can handle what they need it to handle. Our top models can go for up to 60kms on a full charge.
What Do You Want to Use Your Long-Range E-bike for, Anyway?
Most of our customers enjoy the convenience and the freedom a pedal assist E-bike gives them. What is long-range, anyway? From your home to the train station, then a few kilometres to the office at the other end, plus the return trip? Or all the way to the leisure centre, library, pharmacy and back? That may be the whole day’s errands knocked off on one charge. Job done. If you want to do the Tour de France or the Darwin-to-Hobart Madman event, you’re looking at the wrong mode of transport, so let’s be realistic.
